The Clearview staff is committed to providing the most innovative, effective treatment possible. Utilizing the latest methodology, Clearview provides its staff with ongoing training in the following areas: addiction and dual diagnosis, psychiatric disorders, trauma related disorders, eating disorders, sexual compulsivity, codependency, family therapy, and psychosocial and vocational rehabilitation.
Our staff is comprised of Board Certified Psychiatrists, an Internal Medicine Physician, PhDs, Licensed and Master’s level Psychotherapists, Master’s level Social Workers, Certified Addiction Counselors, Case Managers, a Registered Dietician, and Vocational Counselors.
MICHAEL ROY, MSW
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Michael Roy received his Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree from the University of Southern California (USC) and has over fourteen years of administrative, clinical, and management experience in the fields of chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, and mental health. From 1990 to 1997, Michael worked as a clinician, administrator, educator, and Assistant Program Director for Gateways Beit T'Shuvah, a nationally known residential drug and alcohol and dual diagnosis treatment center. In this capacity, he was responsible for all aspects of the program and supervised the clinical and administrative staff. He provided group and individual counseling and created and facilitated the aftercare program.
From 1996 to 1998, Michael was an intern psychotherapist at the Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills, providing clinical services to adults, adolescents, children, and families. He performed individual, couple, and family psychotherapy with clients from diverse backgrounds suffering from a wide range of psychiatric disorders.
During 1998, Michael worked with the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration, where he co-supervised treatment for a 150-bed treatment facility for drug and alcohol addicted, homeless veterans. He supervised the case management team, a 24-bed social model detoxification unit, and a 24-bed Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Program.
From 1999 to 2001, Michael worked at Promises Treatment Center, a nationally recognized chemical dependency treatment program. As Program Director, Michael oversaw all aspects of the clinical program, supervised numerous clinical and administrative staff, and oversaw three sober living homes.
Michael has also worked in a private practice providing psychotherapy to clients with dual diagnosis, trauma related disorders, codependency, sexual addiction, and psychiatric disorders.
RAY SANTAMARIA, M.A., MFT
CLINICAL DIRECTOR
Ray Santamaria received his Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. From 2002 to 2003, Ray was a therapist at Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic working with a diverse clientele including adolescents, gay & lesbian clients, artists, and minority clients.
Also in 2002 and 2003, Ray worked at Promises Treatment Centers. As Outpatient Coordinator and Counselor, Ray oversaw the administrative components of the Intensive Outpatient Program and provided individual, family, and group counseling.
From 2003 to 2004, Ray was Primary Therapist at The Salvation Army’s Way In Youth Services where he worked with group-home boys, homeless youth, and young adults in the Independent Living Program.
In 2004, Ray served as the Treatment Coordinator and Lead Clinician at Summit Centers Malibu, a UCLA medically directed chemical dependency treatment program specializing in dual diagnosis. In this capacity, he served in administrative, supervisory, and clinical roles.
CAROL HAYMAN, M.A., MFT
CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
Carol Hayman received her M.A. from the California State University, Northridge in 1988. She has been in private practice since 1989 and specializes in chemical dependency, eating disorders, and personality disorders. Her practice includes work with individuals, couples, and families.
Carol began her career in 1987 working as a staff therapist at New Start, a drug-counseling clinic and at the same time was a staff therapist at the Airport Marina Counseling Center. In 1991, she worked at a psychiatric acute care unit at Doctor's Hospital in Los Angeles as a lead therapist, as well as developing and implementing a discharge planning system.
Carol has extensive experience as a clinical supervisor and a special interest in community work. From 1995 to 1998, she was the clinical staff supervisor at Ocean Park Community Center in Santa Monica. From 1999 to present, she has been the clinical staff supervisor at A Place Called Home, a drop-in-center for at-risk youth in South Central Los Angeles.
SARA IANNACO, M.A., MFT
INTAKE DIRECTOR
Sara Iannaco graduated from Phillips Graduate Institute with a Master in Psychology degree. She has worked in the mental health field for over three years.
Sara has completed a one year training program in Family Therapy through the California Family Counseling Center and has completed level one and two training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing from the EMDR Institute.
From 2002 to 2004 Sara worked for the Emotional Support Services of L.A. Shanti providing individual, couple, family, and group counseling for people infected and affected by HIV. Sara also worked as a staff therapist at Phoenix House, a residential adolescent treatment center for chemical dependency, and also worked with children and adolescents at an outpatient mental health center.
In addition to her work at Clearview Treatment Programs, she has a private practice in West Los Angeles.
JENNIFER SCHNEIDER, Ph.D.
PROGRAM THERAPIST
Dr. Schneider received her doctorate in clinical psychology from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. Dr. Schneider has worked as a therapist in several outpatient community mental health centers in the Los Angeles area since 2001. These include The Maple Counseling Center, Airport Marina Counseling Service and The Wright Institute Los Angeles.
Dr. Schneider completed a post-doctoral internship at The Center for Healthy Aging in Santa Monica where she coordinated their intake program and also supervised intern therapists. Dr. Schneider continues to supervise psychology interns part-time at The Center for Healthy Aging.
Since 2003, Dr. Schneider has maintained a private practice in Westwood where she sees adolescents and adults as well as couples. Her specialties include anxiety disorders, depressive disorders and eating disorders, as well as body image issues.
In addition, Dr. Schneider is on the faculty at California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles where she teaches a course to second year Ph.D. students on Psychodiagnostic Assessment.
ALISON C. SCHUR, Psy.D., M.P.H.
PROGRAM THERAPIST
Dr. Schur is a licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Schur began her graduate education at the University of Southern California (USC) where she received a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with an emphasis on nutrition. Dr. Schur worked as a therapist with the KidShape program for 2 years with overweight/obese children and their families providing counseling in nutrition, exercise, and issues of self-esteem.
Dr. Schur received both her Master of the Arts in Clinical Psychology and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a health emphasis from the California School of Clinical Psychology (CSPP) in Los Angeles.
Dr. Schur worked with AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) where she saw predominantly gay men infected with HIV/AIDS dealing with medical problems, addiction and psychiatric diagnoses. Dr. Schur also provided psychotherapy in a private medical practice helping patients with chronic pain manage their symptoms and prescription addictions. She has also worked at the California State University, Northridge (CSUN) counseling center where she provided psychotherapy and psychoeducation to students and faculty of the university.
Most recently, Dr. Schur completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she worked predominantly with individuals, groups and couples dealing with eating disorders, bariatric surgery, and dually diagnosed patients facing addiction coupled with other psychiatric illnesses.
CLAUDIA de GARMO, M.A., MFT
PROGRAM THERAPIST
Claudia de Garmo received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Phillips Graduate Institute in 1996. She has extensive experience working with dually diagnosed clients who have co-occurring addictions and mental health problems.
Claudia began her career as a therapist at the Los Angeles Free Clinic where she worked with clients presenting with a wide range of mental health issues.
From 2000 to 2003, Claudia was a Staff Therapist at Creative Care, a residential treatment facility for acute dual diagnosis patients, where she provided individual, couple, family, and group therapy.
Claudia specializes in treating clients with drug and alcohol problems; eating disorders; mood disorders; personality disorders; trauma issues; and impulse control disorders, including self injury, stealing, and obsessive compulsive behavior.
THOMAS MONDRAGON, M.A., MFT
PRIMARY THERAPIST
Thomas Mondragon received his Master’s degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University in 1999. He has extensive experience in the field of dual diagnosis treatment working with clients presenting with both addiction and mental health issues.
Thomas began his career as a therapist working at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. As a staff clinician, he provided individual, couples and group therapy for the diverse issues serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) communities.
From 2003 to2004, Thomas was a staff therapist for Alternatives Inc. in their GLBT partial hospitalization program with special attention to addictive disorders, emotional disorders, HIV/AIDS, gay/lesbian identity, homophobia and other related issues.
Beginning in 2004 until fall of 2006, Thomas was a primary therapist at Renaissance Malibu in their inpatient residential chemical dependency program where he conducted groups, individual and family sessions.
Thomas also has a private practice in West Hollywood and is an adjunct faculty member at Antioch University and National University where he teaches in their masters programs in clinical psychology.
MEME RHEE, M.A.
PRIMARY THERAPIST
Meme Rhee received her Master's in Somatic Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and supervised training at the Haight Ashbury Psychological Services in San Francisco. She has provided supervised counseling to Eating Disordered patients at the Bellavita at BHC Alhambra and to Victims of Crime at Multi-Cultural Mental Health in Huntington Park.
Meme specializes in Somatic Psychology, an experiential approach to psychology that uses body consciousness and sensory awareness to help clients address unresolved trauma and addiction. She uses an integrative approach to psychotherapy combining experiential modalities such as Gestalt and Somatic therapies with Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior therapies.
In addition, Meme brings to her practice her experience as an athlete, scholar and leadership executive. As a 2nd degree black belt and former Martial Arts competitor and performer, Meme employs sports psychology and executive coaching for those interested in enhancing leadership skills, creativity and physical excellence.
LESLIE D. ROTTMAN, M.A.
PROGRAM THERAPIST
Leslie Rottman earned her Master’s degree in counseling psychology from Ryokan College. Prior to entering the field of addiction Leslie did her undergraduate work in child development and early childhood education. In 1990 she opened Leslie’s Home Base, a large family day care in Pacific Palisades, which she owned and operated for five years.
Leslie earned her certification in Drug and Alcohol Counseling and Drug Abuse Studies from UCLA. From 2000 to 2001, she worked at Promises Residential Treatment Center in Malibu as a Program Technician and Art Therapy group facilitator.
From 2001 to 2003, she worked at Creative Care in Malibu, a residential treatment facility for acute dual diagnosis patients. She held multiple positions including Staff Counselor, Community Liaison, Transition Counselor, Group Facilitator, Discharge Planner, and Resource Coordinator.
DAVE McGUIRE, M.A.
PROGRAM THERAPIST
Dave McGuire graduated from Antioch University with a Master in Clinical Psychology degree in March, 2005. He has worked in the mental health field for over three years.
From 2003 to 2006 Dave worked for the Ways of Being Community Counseling of Antioch University Counseling Center providing individual, couple, family, and group counseling for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender population addressing gender and sexual identity, the coming out process, and internalized homophobia.
Dave also worked as a staff therapist at Milestones Ranch Malibu, a residential treatment center for dual diagnosed individuals, worked with severely emotionally disturbed adolescents at a non-public school and is active with survivors of clergy sex abuse.
In addition to his work at Clearview Treatment Programs, he has a private practice in West Los Angeles.
ALICIA MENCACCI, CADC
FACILITIES COORDINATOR AND CASE MANAGER
Alicia received her certification as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor from UCLA in 2000. Alicia brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in residential drug/alcohol and dual diagnosis treatment. Her expertise is in motivating clients to take personal responsibility for their lives and learn the skills necessary for healthy independent living.
From 1998 to 2003, Alicia worked for Promises Residential Treatment Centers and held positions as the Intake Director and Technician Supervisor. In 2004, she helped to start The Canyon at Peace Park, a residential dual diagnosis treatment facility in Malibu, where she held the position of Intake Director.
KAVEH ZAL, CADC
FACILITIES COORNINATOR AND CASE MANAGER
Kaveh Zal received his certificate in Drug and alcohol counseling from ICDS in 2006 and has worked in the field chemical dependency and dual diagnosis for several years. As a Case Manager at Clearview, he works in conjunction with the therapists and the treatment team to provide specialized care for each client. Kaveh is instrumental in helping residents with independent living skills and community reintegration.
From 2003 to 2005, Kaveh worked for The Canyon at Peace Park, a residential dual diagnosis treatment facility in Malibu, where he held the position of Program Aid. Prior to that, Kaveh managed a sober living in West Los Angeles where he helped the residents make the transition from treatment to independent living. Kaveh’s compassion, patience, understanding, and dedication enable him to assist residents in recognizing substance abuse concerns and developing the tools necessary for their personal recovery.
JOE SCHOCK, CADC
CASE MANAGER
Joe Schock received his certification as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor from UCLA. He has worked in the fields of chemical dependency, mental health, and dual diagnosis for the last six years. Joe began his career in the mental health field at Daniel Freemen Hospital's psychiatric unit working as a Psychiatric Technician as well as facilitating groups for patients suffering from mental illness.
From 1997 to 2000, Joe worked on the locked and unlocked psychiatric units at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills, California. As Technician Supervisor, he oversaw technicians on both units and conducted various groups.
From 2000 to 2002, Joe held several positions with Promises Treatment Centers including Tech Supervisor and Intake Counselor/Coordinator. His responsibilities included phone and in-person assessments, intakes, and facilitating groups with substance abusing clients.
In 2002, Joe worked in South Central Los Angeles facilitating groups with adolescents in the Charter School System. From 2003 to 2004, Joe worked at Brotman Hospital’s Exodus Recovery Unit, providing counseling services to patients undergoing detoxification from addictive substances.
ROBERT BIRNBERG
YOGA AND MEDITATION INSTRUCTOR
Robert began studying yoga in 1978 to treat back pain and anxiety disorders. When he experienced the ease with which Yoga helped to resolve these chronic problems, he decided to make Yoga a lifelong endeavor.
After an extensive Yoga Therapist training program in South India, Robert began teaching Yoga as an integrative treatment for emotional illness, stress reduction, and physical injuries. His studies also include anatomy, physiology, and relationship counseling.
In addition to working with Clearview, Robert studies yoga regularly in India, conducts workshops in Los Angles and around the world, and teaches group and individual classes at his studio in Silverlake, Los Angeles.
HOLLY HEIN, Ph.D.
FACILITATOR
Dr. Hein received her MSW from New York University School of Social Work. She earned her Ph.D. from the Institute of Clinical Social Work in Berkeley, California. She holds several post graduate degrees from the Institute of Ego Psychology in New York, and the Institute for Contemporary Psychology in Los Angeles. Dr. Hein is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She uses it extensively in her work with PTSD clients and interweaves it with her work in the chemical dependency field.
Dr. Hein has developed and conducted workshops in a variety of subjects including Relapse Prevention, The Effects of Trauma, Managing Anxiety, Parenting, Building Intimacy & Decoding Infidelity, Tools to Affirm Boundaries, Facing Audition and Performance Anxiety, Building Intimacy with Yourself in Sobriety, Family Relations, Pitfalls of Adolescence, and Differentiating One’s Addictive Needs from Real Needs.
Dr. Hein‘s also holds a private practice where she works with individuals, couples, and families. Her specialties include eating disorders, chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, aging, grief and trauma, and groups in the process of recovery.
Dr. Hein has made many guest appearances as a relationship expert on national television and radio. Her book, Sexual Detours, (The Starling Truth Behind Love, Lust, and Infidelity) St. Martins Press, 2001 was well reviewed. She is in the process of writing another book.
GARY S. FISHER, Psy.D., CADC
GROUP FACILITATOR
Dr. Gary S. Fisher received his Doctor of Psychology degree from Ryokan College in 1999. Dr. Fisher is an expert in the treatment of addictive disorders and has worked for the past 24 years as a counselor, administrator, and therapist with treatment programs in Texas, Hawaii, Australia, and California.
His wide range of experience includes work with adolescents, adults, dual diagnosed clients, couples, and families, in culturally diverse populations. Dr. Fisher has gone through rigorous training in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for both addictive and trauma related issues.
Utilizing a combination of cognitive-behavioral and transpersonal psychological approaches, Dr. Fisher is qualified to aid individuals, couples, and families, in the difficult task of dealing with an addictive disorder. His work also addresses other life issues, including relationship difficulties, life stage transitions, and grief work.
JEAN CAMPBELL, MSW, CET III, TEP
GROUP FACILITATOR
Jean Campbell holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham University, is certified as a Master’s Level Experiential Therapist (CET III) by the American Society of Experiential Therapy, and is certified as a Trainer, Educator and Practitioner (TEP) of Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy by the American Board of Examiners.
In addition, she is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Jean is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New York and is in the process of obtaining her California license.
Jean has extensive experience working with chemical dependency, codependency, trauma, and bodywork. From 1995-2000, she worked at several chemical dependency treatment programs in New York City, including Freedom Institute and Inter-Care. While at Inter-Care, she was the Family Program Director, an Interventionist, and the Staff Psychodramatist.
From 2000-2004, Jean was in private practice in New York City, facilitating individual, couples, and group sessions, using psychodrama and bodywork extensively in her practice. Jean has trained clinicians nationally and internationally in psychodrama.
Kathryn A. Mastrogiovanni, M.A., MFT
GROUP FACILITATOR
Kathryn Mastrogiovanni received her Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles. She has worked extensively in chemical dependency and dual diagnosis for the past eight years.
Kathryn began her career in the Los Angeles school district working with severely troubled adolescents suffering from learning disabilities, drug addiction, and gang related trauma. During this time, she facilitated process groups and conducted numerous workshops.
During 1999, Kathryn worked as a therapist at the Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills conducting assessments and providing clinical services to adults, adolescents, children, and families.
From 2000 to 2002, Kathryn worked for Promises. As Outpatient Coordinator, she was responsible for day-to-day operations of the program and performed individual and family counseling sessions. In addition, she facilitated psycho-educational groups, psychotherapy process groups, and multi-family groups.
Kathryn's focus includes intensive psychodynamic work with individuals and couples dealing with emotional trauma, sex addition, eating disorders, codependency, mood and personality disorders.
JOELENE KNIGHT, CADC
GROUP FACILITOTOR
Joelene received her Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Los Angeles Mission College and completed the CADAC program at UCLA. Joelene has over thirteen years of experience in the field of chemical dependency treatment and has developed a specialty in working with young adults going through difficult transitions.
She began her work in 1991 at Coldwater Canyon Hospital working with adolescents struggling with addiction and quickly found her passion for working with young adults in their quest for sobriety. She continued to expand her experience by helping to implement various different programs in junior high and high school within the Los Angeles Unified School District.
From 1995 to 2001, Joelene worked as the Senior Counselor for Promises Treatment Centers. Her responsibilities included individual counseling, group counseling, and case management as well as working closely with managed care companies. Joelene also has extensive experience in outpatient treatment settings.
Joelene helped to set up and open Visions Adolescent Treatment Center, in Malibu. She remains passionate about helping people overcome their addictions and enabling them to meet the challenges of life once recovery begins.
MARGIE FETTING, Ph.D., L.C.S.W.
PROGRAM CONSULTANT
Margaret Fetting, Ph.D., L.C.S.W., completed her graduate training at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr Fetting has a private practice in Santa Monica, specializing in several areas, most notably chemical dependency and abuse with adults. She is well regarded in the field, specifically recognized for her depth and breadth of knowledge and diversity of treatment approaches.
Dr Fetting is an Associate Adjunct Professor at the USC School of Social Work and is also on the faculty of Antioch University, Santa Barbara. In addition, Dr Fetting has designed and taught hundreds of Chemical Dependency Workshops throughout Central and Southern California for hospitals, social service departments, clinical organizations, children and family agencies, and large sponsored seminars and workshops.
Dr Fetting conducts pre and re-licensing workshops for several organizations including NASW. She also supervises clinicians in this field on a regular basis. Dr. Fetting has been on the staff of several hospitals and programs specializing in chemical dependence as well as eating disorders. Her experience in these areas spans over 14 years.
